KOHL’S TO DONATE $71,381 TO ST. JOHN’S KOHL’S INJURY PREVENTION CENTER

Springfield, MO. Oct. 10, 2009 – St. John’s Foundation for Community Health announces the St. John’s Kohl’s Injury Prevention Center will receive $71,381 from Kohl’s Cares for Kids®, a philanthropic initiative supporting children’s health and educational opportunities.

Kohl’s Cares for Kids® includes a merchandise program featuring $5 books and plush toys where 100% of net profits go toward supporting hospital partnerships like this one. Through 2008, Kohl's has raised more than $126 million dollars through its merchandise program. Other components of Kohl's Cares for Kids include Kohl's A-Team associate volunteer program; the Kohl’s Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program, recognizing stand-out kids for volunteer efforts in their communities; and fundraising gift cards for local schools and nonprofit organizations.

Kohl’s has provided more than $220,000 to St. John’s since 2005 through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids® program, which raises funds for children’s health and educational opportunities through the sale of special gift items. Net profits from the sales go to support children’s health and educational opportunities in the market areas served by Kohl’s. St. John’s recognized Kohl’s in 2007 by naming the St. John’s Kohl’s Injury Prevention Program and purchasing a van to allow outreach to regional schools and communities throughout the Ozarks.

Now recognized as an Injury Prevention Center, St. John’s Kohl’s Injury Prevention Center provides evidenced based injury prevention programs on the leading causes of injury in the region. The program reached more than 120,000 people last year.

“Trauma injuries are the number one cause of death for children, says Pam Holt, St. John’s Injury Prevention Program Coordinator. Kohl’s commitment to improve the health of children and prevent trauma injuries in our community has allowed us to reach more children with our safety message than ever before.”

Kohl’s community outreach also includes Kohl’s Kids Who Care®, an annual youth volunteer recognition program, fundraising gift cards for local schools and non-profit youth groups, as well as an associate program to encourage volunteerism.

Kohl’s history of giving :

2006 - $41,856 provided to Schools on the Move STEP CLUB in collaboration with Springfield Greene County Park Board.

2007 - $49,905.73 provided to purchase Kohl's van and volunteer incentives
