Springfield Flu Immunization Coalition announces high-risk flu shot clinics

Sept. 28, 2005

The Springfield Flu Immunization Coalition announces locations for the 2005 high-risk flu shot clinics. The first phase of the 2005 campaign will include the distribution of vouchers for the area high-risk clinics. The second phase will include a week of high-risk flu vaccination clinics (voucher required) followed by a week of city and county clinics (no voucher required).

Under the voucher system, high-risk* individuals will be able to reserve flu vaccine and select a clinic site in advance. Individuals may pick up vouchers for high-risk adults. Health officials anticipate the new procedure will eliminate the excessive lines and long waits that occurred outside flu clinics in past years. Vouchers will be available for pickup at three sites:

 Springfield-Greene County Health Department, 227 E. Chestnut Expressway, drive-up voucher pickup available 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8. (Please enter from Central Street following the one-way signs.)

 Southwest Missouri Office on Aging, 1735 S. Fort Ave., 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, October 10-11;

 Jordan Valley Community Health Center Clinic, 630 W. Kearney St. (old Kearney Branch Library), 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday and Tuesday, October 10-11.

The Springfield Flu Immunization Coalition’s high-risk clinics are scheduled October 17-21. The clinics will be open from 7:00 a.m. until noon. To receive a shot, individuals should present their voucher at the designated time, date and location listed on the voucher. (Sample voucher attached.)

Monday, October 17 Doling Family Center, 301 E. Talmage (next door to the
Northview Senior Center)

Tuesday, October 18 Cox North Fountain Plaza Room, 1423 N Jefferson Ave.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department will offer flu vaccinations at four additional locations following the week of high-risk clinics . Vouchers are not required at these locations and shots are given out on a first come, first served basis. Locations include:

Thursday, October 20 Willard Community Center 222 W Jackson St.,

Vaccine for the clinics will be made available to Greene County residents again this year through the cooperation of the Springfield Flu Immunization Coalition.
