St. John's Trauma and Burn Center announce design winners
Dec. 13, 2004
Jordan Vitzthum of Willard East Elementary is the overall winner of a contest
sponsored by St. John's Burn Center. His artwork will appear on the cover of St.
John's How To Be Burn Free, A Coloring Book for Kids
How to Be Burn Free, A Coloring Book for Kids was redesigned in 2004 in memory
of St. John's patient Josh Thompson. A sixth grader, Josh suffered severe burns
to 80 percent of his body after a gasoline can exploded while he attended to a
bonfire.
Josh was hospitalized at St. John's Burn Center for 38 days before passing away
due to the severity of his injuries.
"Josh's family and friends are committed to burn prevention and have allowed St.
John's to memorialize him with this educational tool," explains Pam Holt, RN,
St. John's Trauma Prevention Educator. His sixth grade teacher, Debra Ellis,
organized the coloring contest in his memory.
St. John's doctors and nurses pick new coloring contest winner each year.
Winners in various grade categories have their artwork displayed in the Burn
Center alongside a photo of Josh.

First Place Samantha Jones, Willard Central
Second Place Erica Hillman, Willard North
