If you have had films done (MRIs, CT
scans,
x-rays, etc.) please bring them to your appointment. This will save
valuable diagnostic time for you and your physician.
Upon check in at St. John’s Spine Center, you
will be asked to complete a health questionnaire describing your symptoms
and past medical history. The physicians will use this tool, along with any
films you have and an exam to determine how to proceed.
The initial exam will be performed by the
physician, assisted in some instances by a mid-level provider. A midlevel
provider is either a nurse practitioner or physician assistant who has
attended an accredited post-baccalaureate program to specifically train
him/her in this medical role.
If the physician determines that you need
physical therapy, St. John’s Spine Center has on-site physical therapists
who will provide your treatment.
Upon examining you and reviewing your films,
your physician may determine that you need another specialty. In those
instances, he will have one of his Spine Center colleagues in another
discipline review your films and possibly perform an exam. This allows us
to give you comprehensive care in a shorted time frame.
In addition to medications and/or physical
therapy, your physician may refer you to our on-site psychologist to help
learn pain management techniques, smoking cessation, stress management,
relaxation and other coping strategies to decrease pain levels.
If subsequent visits are needed, the
physician will have them scheduled.
