St. John's Mercy Villa named MissouriPRO Quality Partner

St. John's Mercy Villa has been recognized as a Quality Partner by MissouriPRO, a non-profit, physician-sponsored organization that has reviewed the quality of patient care in Missouri since 1983. The Quality Partner distinction is given to health care organizations that participate in the Nursing Home Quality Initiative, sponsored nationally by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). As a Quality Partner, Mercy Villa demonstrates a commitment to improving the quality of care for its residents.

"By partnering with MissouriPRO on the Nursing Home Quality Initiative, we expand our knowledge and resources to achieve a greater and more immediate enhancement of our services," says Don Swafford, administrator for St. John’s Mercy Villa. "As a provider of long-term care in Greene County, St. John's Mercy Villa is committed to providing the best possible care for our residents."

Mercy Villa provides residents with six levels of skilled nursing care. Some residents may have more needs than others, and Mercy Villa staff works to accommodate the needs of each one.
The facility is continually recognized for its quality of care. During the last two years, Mercy Villa has achieved perfect scores on both its state and federal inspections.

“Working with MissouriPRO, we’re measured against other facilities in the state and nationally,” Swafford says. “As part of the continuum of care for St. John's Health System, our goal is to be the long-term care facility of choice.”

St. John’s Mercy Villa takes great pride in the variety of activities it offers residents. Activities include cooking classes, bingo, crafts, movies and birthday parties. Staff activity coordinators work to provide the residents with at least two activities a day.

The facility’s more mobile residents travel to Branson, the Dickerson Park Zoo and to see Christmas lights during the holidays. Other activities include pet therapy days. Staff and family members bring pets to share with the residents. Children from local elementary and middle schools also periodically visit Mercy Villa.

Tips for Selecting a Long-term Care Facility

When choosing an aging care center it is imperative that you visit the facility. This provides the opportunity to make note of the atmosphere, talk with staff, and witness resident and staff interactions.

  • Quality of Life
Are interactions among residents and staff warm and friendly?
  • Quality of Care
    Check the resident-to-staff ratio.
  • Administration
Do staff members show patients genuine interest and affection?
Do patients look well cared for and generally content?
  • Comfort
Does the facility look and smell clean and orderly?
  • Nursing Services
Is at least one registered nurse or licensed practical nurse on duty day and night?
    What is the nurse-to-patient ratio?
